MetaTrader
Connect a MetaTrader 4 or 5 account to Tradeways with read-only investor credentials for automatic, continuous trade sync.
MetaTrader
Connect a MetaTrader 4 or 5 account and Tradeways imports your trade history and keeps it in sync automatically. There is nothing to install — you enter your read-only investor credentials once, and our sync service logs into your broker on a schedule to pull new executions.
This is different from the ATAS Indicator, which runs inside your platform. MetaTrader syncs server-side, so your computer doesn't need to be on.
How it works
You give Tradeways your account's investor password — a read-only password that MetaTrader provides specifically for sharing account data. With it our service can read your trade history and open positions but cannot place, modify, or close orders, and cannot withdraw funds. Your main (trading) password is never required.
Once connected:
- Your trade history is imported and matched into trades in the Trade Log.
- The connection re-syncs on a schedule, adding new executions as you trade.
- Each connection maps to one Tradeways trading account.
Setup
1. Find your investor password
In your MetaTrader terminal, open the account settings (in MT5: right-click your account → Investor login, or check your broker's account email). The investor password is separate from the password you log in to trade with. If you don't have one, set it through your broker or in the terminal's password-change dialog.
2. Open the connect dialog
In Tradeways, go to Settings → Integrations, find the MetaTrader section, and click Connect MetaTrader account.
3. Fill in the connection
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Trading account | The Tradeways account that synced trades should land in. Create one first if you don't have any. |
| Broker | Your broker, picked from the supported list. |
| Server | The specific broker server your account lives on (e.g. Broker-Live, Broker-Demo). Pick the broker first. |
| Login | Your MetaTrader account number. |
| Investor password | The read-only investor password from step 1. |
| Import history from | The date to start importing from. Trades before this date are skipped. Backfill is limited to the last 6 months. |
Click Connect MetaTrader account. The status moves to Importing history while the first backfill runs, then to Connected once it's caught up.
Only brokers and servers we currently support appear in the list. If yours is missing, let us know which broker and server you use.
Importing older history
Backfill is capped at the last 6 months. To bring in trades older than that, export them from MetaTrader and use a manual Import — once connected, the live sync takes over for everything going forward.
Connection status
The connection shows a status badge:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Pending | Connection created, first sync not started yet. |
| Importing history | Backfilling your historical trades. |
| Syncing | Pulling the latest executions. |
| Connected | Up to date. |
| Wrong credentials | Your login or investor password was rejected — update it. |
| Needs attention | Something needs support's help. |
| Disabled | The connection is turned off (e.g. you removed it). |
The row also shows the broker, server, login, and when it last synced.
Managing a connection
- Update password — rotate the stored investor password (for example after changing it at your broker). The current password is never displayed.
- Remove connection — deletes the stored login. Your already-imported trades stay; re-add the account to resume syncing.
Troubleshooting
For anything not covered here, contact support@tradeways.app.
"Wrong credentials"
- Double-check the login (account number) and that you entered the investor password, not your trading password.
- Investor passwords can be reset by your broker or in the terminal. After resetting, use Update password on the connection.
Broker or server not in the list
- We only show supported servers. Confirm the exact server name in your MetaTrader terminal (it's shown next to your account), and if it's still missing, tell us the broker and server.
Some old trades are missing
- Backfill only goes back 6 months, and only from the Import history from date you chose. Use a manual Import for anything older.
Status stuck on a sync error
- Most sync errors are temporary and retry automatically — no action needed. If a connection stays in Needs attention, contact support.
